Descrição geral
Pristane, also known as norphytane, is a saturated norterpenoid alkane derived from phytane. Its immunological properties are valuable for various applications, serving as an inflammation-inducing agent in tumorigenesis and autoimmune disease induction, facilitating research on conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Pristane′s diverse applications span acting as an immunological adjuvant, inducing autoimmune diseases, facilitating monoclonal antibody production, and serving as an energy source, making it a valuable asset in biochemical research, cell culture, and molecular biology.
Aplicação
Pristane also acts as an immunological adjuvant for generating monoclonal antibodies in mouse ascites[1] and finds use as a biological marker. Additionally, pristane can also be used as the primary carbon and energy source for the growth of a bacterial strain, coryneform soil isolate. Its distinctive ability to induce plasmacytomas is particularly valuable for studying B-cell tumors like Burkitt′s lymphoma.
It is commonly used for priming animals, leading to granulomatous inflammation and disruption of local lymphatic drainage, resulting in increased ascitic yields. It has been used to induce systemic lupus in mice[2][3]
Pristane has been used as an inflammation-inducing agent, leading to myeloma development in BALB/c strain mice.[4] It has been used as a rheumatoid arthritis-inducing agent in rats.[5]
